Honors Program
Mission Statement
The Daley College Honors Program offers an enhanced and supportive learning environment responsive to the educational needs of highly able and exceptionally motivated students of any major. Through participation of faculty noted for excellence in teaching, a small class size, interdisciplinary Honors colloquia, special seminars, and an increased opportunity for undergraduate research, an enhanced, supportive learning environment is achieved. The essential core of the Honors Program is a liberal arts education which examines in depth the intellectual currents for the 18th, 19th, 20th, and 21st century and prepares students for transfer into a baccalaureate program at a four-year college or university. The Honors curriculum includes courses in humanities, natural and social sciences, mathematics, and literature. Emphasis is placed upon integration of course content, exchange of ideas, and development of critical thinking skills.
About the Honors Program
The Honors Program also offers many social and cultural events outside of the classroom. It provides opportunities for students to practice citizenship and leadership skills in a variety of settings. Students gain a heightened awareness of current issues facing our global community and develop a global perspective (which includes a foundation of knowledge about global conditions and events, empathy/concern for condition of others, and recognition of their power to effect positive change in the world).Perhaps the most important of all, however, is that throughout the program learning is treated as a worthwhile pursuit and education is considered a lifelong process.
